Obstetrics and gynecology residents were coming to Janet Singer, faculty member at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, to discuss complex feelings about abortion that they experienced during training. Singer decided to bring residents together to provide a supportive and confidential environment in which to share their feelings and questions with colleagues. Through this support group, Ob/Gyn residents are able to process the experience of providing, or choosing not to provide, abortions. Four residents agreed to anonymously share their thoughts in a recent paper published by Singer and colleagues in Obstetrics & Gynecology. WBUR conducted interviews with several of these residents to explore the issues and questions that are the most challenging and essential to their professional choices.
